Fire Alarm Systems ~ An overview of changes within NFPA 72-2019 The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will adopt the 2021 ICC Model Codes on/after July 13th,2025. This adoption establishes the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) as the driving document associated with new fire alarm system requirements both prescriptively and by reference of the NFPA 72-2019, The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code. This session provides a summary of changes within the 2019 Edition of NFPA 72.

Todd joined UL in 2016 as an AHJ Education Specialist/Alarm System Auditor upon retiring from public service after 26 years in Pennsylvania and North Carolina working as a police officer, firefighter/EMT, and fire marshal. Todd has considerable experience with disciplines associated with the built environment, fire and building code enforcement, fire investigation, fire service functions, local government functions, and Community Risk Reduction/Fire Prevention. As part of UL Solutions, he presents training courses nationwide related to fire and life safety systems and performs technical compliance audits of fire alarm and life safety systems. Todd has delivered countless education sessions related to Building and Fire Code  enforcement, Legal Administration of Code, Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems, Code Enforcement Technology, Fire Investigation, Evidence Collection, Expert Witness Courtroom Testimony, Courtroom Testimony and Search Warrants for Code Officials, and Fire Investigations involving Fire Protection Systems. Additionally, he has contributed to publications related to fire protection systems. Todd holds certifications in building and fire code inspection and fire investigation, is an Adjunct Instructor at the National Fire Academy within the Fire Investigation curriculum, and represents UL Solutions on NFPA Technical Committees 950, 1031, & 1033. He works remotely from the suburban Philadelphia region. Code changes are focused around the life safety updates in the code book which will be adopted by the state in June or July of 2025.  Systems affected by these changes include fire alarm, sprinkler, etc.
